If a person wants to study abroad and in the following world-famous destinations then it won’t always come cheap, which is exactly why we’ve rounded up the most amazing student scholarships that are available – helping them to make the most of their study abroad experience. New York


New York City is among the top 20 cities for students all around the world, according to the QS Best Student Cities 2016 rankings – and it’s easy to see why. The ‘Big Apple’ boasts only 11 internationally ranked universities that include world-renowned Cornell University and currently it is ranked inside the top 20 worldwide universities and Columbia University that is ranked just outside the top 20 universities. Besides its top-ranking institutions, NYC is also a home to must-see a vivacious nightlife, landmarks and countless high-flying companies that is something a student has to think about when it comes to landing a job after completing their studies.


Unfortunately, all of these advantages come to the students with a hefty price tag: New York City is one of the most expensive study options in all around the world, that too including tuition fees amounting to $35,000 on average – not to mention the high costs of living in the city.


Scholarships


The government has funded Fulbright Foreign Student Programme that is a US-wide initiative, but it also includes most of the universities that are New York-based. It also offers the graduate scholarships to exclude the field of medicine for one year or more of study.


The Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Programme isn’t a degree scholarship scheme for the students but instead is intended for the international professionals that are looking to do 10 months of the academic study in the US. Cornell University is one of the participating institutions all around the world.


Beyond these more general scholarships for the students, there are a number of the universities in New York that offers a funding opportunity to the international students. There is the number of New York Universities that has a limited number of merit-based scholarships for the Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, while The New School provides the international scholarships for the degrees in the liberal subjects. The other New York universities offer the students scholarships that include Yeshiva University, Cornell University, Columbia University, City University of New York, Stevens Institute of Technology and Fordham University.


London


If a person can forgive the often-drab weather, London is one of a brilliant place to study for the students that gives its enviable academic reputation – the English capital currently that has 19 globally ranked universities along with the two sitting inside the top 10 University College London and Imperial College London.


There’s plenty to do outside of study time, with a wealth of museums, art galleries and lively hangout spots. What’s more, although the affordability may be an issue for some of the students because of the high cost of living in London, it’s worth mentioning that the average graduate salary of a student in the city is an impression that is of £29,000!


Scholarships


A number of UK-wide scholarships are available to many of the international students that are on top of the other scholarships that individual universities in the London advertise. There are also other British Chevening Scholarships that are funded by the UK Foreign and the Commonwealth Office, and hat is open to both full and part-time international students in any of the subject. The Commonwealth Scholarships is for Developing the Commonwealth Countries are only for the students who are pursuing master’s and PhD from the developing Commonwealth countries, while the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme is for all the graduate students that are undertaking taught master’s programmes in the country UK. The two other options that are to consider as the Europe-wide Erasmus+ programme and Euraxess, run by the British Council for graduate students looking to study in the UK.


In terms of the London-specific scholarships, several of the city’s top institutions provides the students with funding assistance. There’s the QMUL International Science and Engineering Excellence Awards, which are granted to international students looking to study engineering at Queen Mary University, while the University of West London’s International Ambassador Scholarships are for international students of all levels (though you should bear in mind that these students also have to serve as ambassadors for their home country). The University of Westminster, Goldsmiths, Imperial College London, King’s College London, London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and University College London (UCL) are just some of the other universities that provide international scholarships.


Sydney


Perhaps best known for its world-famous opera house and iconic harbour, Sydney is a dreamland for students. It’s currently ranked as the fourth-best student city in the world, with five globally ranked universities (including The University of Sydney and University of New South Wales). From the lush greenery to the raft of sandy beaches, you’ll find plenty of places to enjoy when you’re not hitting the books. With such a healthy balance of the outstanding institutions and also the vibrant cultural experiences of the country that too on offer, it’s little wonder that Sydney is ranked as one of the top 10 most liveable cities in all around the world by The Economist.


Scholarships


The Australia Awards Scholarships and Fellowships that are run by the Australian government, are awarded to the students from a setlist of the countries so that they can study in any of the university in Australia at any degree level – be it bachelor’s, masters or PhD. Similarly, the government also runs a merit-based Endeavour Postgraduate Scholarships that are available to only postgraduate students from the Middle East, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Americas. Another of the Australia-wide schemes is that the Australia International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS) programme, in which the scholarships are granted to all the graduate students from any of the country (except New Zealand) and also enables them to study at one of the participating universities.


Many of Sydney’s top universities offer scholarships, including Macquarie University, The University of Sydney, University of Technology Sydney, University of New South Wales and Western Sydney University.


Madrid


Sunny weather and a star-studded football team aren’t the only highlights of Spain’s capital city, as Madrid is also an attractive option for students. In fact, it’s Spain’s highest-ranked student city in the QS rankings, with a thriving nightlife, excellent art galleries and a trendy fashion scene. Not only that, you’ll find it an alluringly affordable option compared to some of the other cities on the list – especially when you consider the scholarships available. Oh, and let’s not forget about the Spanish tradition of taking long afternoon naps or ‘siestas’…


Scholarships


The Three of Madrid’s leading universities offers scholarships for international students. Universidad Autónoma de Madrid participates in a many of the Spain-wide scholarship programmes that are only eligible for the postgraduate students that include the Ford Foundation, MAEC-AECID and Fundación Carolina schemes. Other Madrid-based universities offering international scholarships include Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.
