Xuzhou Medical University is an institution of higher education that was established in the year 1958 under the direct administration of the Jiangsu Provincial Government. After more than 50 yearsof development of the Xuzhou Medical University, it has now become a centre of medical education to pursue MBBS in China.
In the earlier time Xuzhou Medical University in China was established as Jiangsu Provincial Medical School and was the Xuzhou branch of the Nanjing Medical College. In the year 1959, Xinhailian Academy was fully merged into a full time university. In the year 1960 the school name and school wereofficially changed to the Xuzhou Medical University. In the year 2000, Xuzhou Health School was turned into college effectively become a comprehensive medical university that now is known as Xuzhou Medical University in China. Xuzhou Medical University in Chinaoffers the students 22 undergraduate programs with all, such as Pharmacology,Anesthesiology, Clinical Medicine, Medical Imageology, Stomatology, Nursing, Biomedical Engineering, Public Administration, etc.
In Xuzhou Medical University in China there are two first level discipline doctoral programs, that are namely Clinical Medicine and Biology, andthe 5 first level discipline master’s programs that are namely preclinical medicine, Pharmacology, public health, Clinical Medicine, Biology, and preventive medicine. The Xuzhou Medical University also has the authorization center of their master’s degree in Clinical Medicine and the university was entitled to recommend the fresh graduates to pursue their master’s degree without taking any national examination. The Xuzhou Medical University still has the post-doctoral research center for the students. TheXuzhou Medical University was marked as “Excellence” in the assessment of teaching level for the undergraduates inthe year 2005, which is also supervised by the Ministry of Education.
Xuzhou Medical University has 4 campuses that covers an area of 80 hectares. It consists of 19 departments and also 14 affiliated hospitals and has a student body of approximately 11,000. Xuzhou Medical University has a total of fourteen affiliated hospitals in China, out of which five are level three first class hospitals that means they are top class hospitals. All the affiliated hospitals are the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University asthe 2nd Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University, the 3rd Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University, etc. All these affiliated hospitals provide the international students’ the medical training in all fields and clinical rotation of laying out the foundation for their qualification as a doctor after the students completes their graduation.
Xuzhou Medical University started to enrol the international students from the various parts of country in the year 2005, and currently the college has nearly 300 international medical students that also includes four doctoral candidates and twelve master degree students. The students are from various countries like Nepal, India, Pakistan, Somalia, Nigeria, Ghana, Dr Congo, Bangladesh, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Singapore. Xuzhou Medical University has also opened a medium of English Programs of Medical Bachelor/Undergraduate Degree including MBBS Programs, Master/Postgraduate Degree and also Doctoral /PHD Degree to international students, so, that they can study easily. Since the year Xuzhou Medical University has entered the colleges list of recruiting Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in English Medium international students, the college are devoting a lot of efforts for the development of international students’ education and also establishing a group of experts and teachers who has rich teaching experience. In addition to it Xuzhou Medical University also hires some of the foreign teachers to give the medical teachers of Xuzhou Medical UniversityEnglish training,the college also organizes medical teachers to exchange and learn from the other universities and sends all the excellent medical teachers to have short term training in abroad too.
In some of the recent years, Xuzhou Medical University has extensively carried out some of the exchange activities and has actively developed the multi model relationships and co-operation with most of the other colleges and universities at home and abroad too. The college has made a cooperation and academic exchange with some of the medical colleges and universities in the UK, US, Singapore, Australia, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
The time period to complete MBBS at Xuzhou Medical University is of 5 Years and 1 Year Internship for the students. So, the total duration is of 6 years for student to complete their MBBS in China.
The curriculum of the course is prepared keeping in view the needs of all the students and the requirements of the country the student is coming from so that they are competent to practice or go in for post-graduation in their country of their origin. The curriculum aims at providing the students the best knowledge and skills to diagnose and manage the patients at the hospital, developing the attitudes ingrained in the profession, developing the proficiency and competence to determine and resolve all the medical and health problems and also to develop the interest of student in continued medical education.
The entire course of MBBS nine semesters is divided in two parts:
(1) In the first four semesters are devoted to the integrated teaching of basic medical subjects at the Xuzhou Medical University. In the first part of it, the subjects taught at the university would be-Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology and Community Medicine.
(2) In the next five semesters are devoted to the clinical subjects. In the second part of it, the subjects taught at the university would be-Medicine, Ophthalmology, Surgery, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Radiology, Anesthesiology, Skin and V.D, Psychiatry and Forensic Medicine and Toxicology.
It is envisaged that all the students shall go back to their respective country after the completion of the course from Xuzhou Medical University for their compulsory rotating internship; however, facilities for completing their internship in Xuzhou Medical University shall also be available. Students can also do the internship in the various hospitals like The Affiliated Hospital of XZMC, The Second Affiliated Hospital of XZMC, The Third Affiliated Hospital of XZMC, The Affiliated First People's Hospital of Xuzhou, The Affiliated First People's Hospital of Lian Yungang, The Affiliated Huai Hai Hospital, The Affiliated Second People's Hospital of Huai'an,The Affiliated Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital of Xuzhou and The Affiliated Xuzhou Stomatological Hospital
All the students completing the requirements of the teaching program and also passing the graduation examinations successfully, all the international medical undergraduates will be granted a graduation certificate and also conferred a medical degree by the Xuzhou Medical University, if they meet the degree regulations of the university. The English copy of the degree that is obtained will state MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery). The medical degree can be recognized by NMC, MCI, MMC, WHO, USMEL. The degree btained after completing the MBBS from Xuzhou Medical University is recognised in most of the country.
